Here Comes the Storyteller!

Olive Hackett-Shaughnessy is a storyteller, writer, workshop leader and curriculum consultant in San Francisco, where she has been an artist-in-residence in public and private schools since 1986.

She has brought the joy and magic of storytelling to countless children and grown-ups over the past three decades, preserving and transmitting this ancient yet relevant art form through transformative and engaging live performances and high-quality recordings.

In this technological age, the energetic bond that was once felt on a front porch or around the hearth is often forgotten. By contrast, told stories are embodied with sound, long silent pauses and punctuating gestures. Being present for a story in community is a sensual experience.

Olive’s lively interactive workshops combine the universal art and techniques of the oral tradition with personal narrative to encourage and strengthen deep listening and empathy. Laughter and play are always included, along with the skills needed to tell your own story.

See Adult Programs and School Programs for examples of Olive’s workshops. Visit Olive's CDs for her recordings.
